Posting commments

I've had a few questions about posting comments and want to let everyone know that I moderate all the comments and must approve them prior to their showing up on the site. I do this because I have seen other blogs with comments that I consider immature, rude, childish, inappropriate, and some just don't relate to the subject. So if you do post a comment please be patient and give me some time to review and approve it.

Someone inquired about a really long comment just a bit ago and I just want to let that person know that it never made it through to me. I saw your test post to see if everything was working but not the real long one you spoke about.

Thanks

  1. I was the test mail person. I wish i would have saved my e-mail. Thanks for explaining the process here.I am thankful to have found your jourmal. It helps us to know what to expect and what is normal.WE are concerned of course. My 12yr old son is on day 5 if you include day 1 as surgery day. Poor kid. He's not doing well at all.The Dr. said his tonsils were huge & filled. I'm thinking that means infected. Maybe that's why he's feeling so bad. He can hardly move his jaw or speak. All he has been drinking is a little apple juice with his pain meds. His ears hurt bad and he has headaches. Like the nurse said we must push more liquids. he isn't interested in ice cream, sherbet or applesauce.I think he's afraid of the pain.I guess I just want to know if all this is normal. i expected him to feel better by now. I was 21 when I had a tonsillectomy and I do recall pain but not sure about all the rest my son is going through. Also, he tried to take a bath twice and as soon as he got out he vomited. Can this be vertigo? How confusing to us. maybe the ear pain/pressure is making him dizzy & nauseaus. The way he described what happened was that he felt sea sick. Also, sounds like acid reflux. His meds contain hydrocodone. The first medicine had codeine but it didn't relieve much pain so they switched him to this one. Sometimes he asks for more meds after 3 hours. He's supposed to make it 4.I didn't realize how involved a tonsillectomy was. We haven't seen any blood which is good and he is urinating 1-2x a day which the nurse said is good. I told him he will feel better soon. Let me know if you have any advice for me. I know you had your surgery awhile back so I'm not sure how fresh this is in your mind. WE are all trying to be patient. Especially our son. He san snap at the drop of a hat. I think he's getting frustrated with the long recovery. Thanks for your journaling & your help!I hope this e-mail goes through.

  2. I tried another ( long ) e-mail to yo a few minutes ago. I hope this one works.I know we will feel all this was worth it one day! Our son wasn't sleeping well prior to his tonsillectomy. His tonsils were so big they were touching each other. We were afraid our son wasn't breathing well.He snored alot.Do you think the size of a person has anything to do with large tonsils? Our son is big for his age. The ENT told us his tonsils were the size of someone 3yrs older than him. They were larger than his adnoids, etc.His voice changed right away after surgery. It's much higher in pitch. Thanks again.

  3. I forgot to mention that our son's tongue is white. Scared me because I know he may be getting dehydrated. The nurse did say this whitening happens after this surgery but that he could also be partially dehydrated. I read your post about it. Very helpful. I then told jared to stop trying to get the white stuff off with a spoon. Like you mentioned; better off left alone. I think this stuff bothers my son. he's confused by these changes going on. You were 37? Wow. I did hear this is easier the youger you are.Our son being 12 isn't considered that young actually. Also, I can see why they don't do many tonsillectomies these days. It's rough. I feel for our son when i watch him swallow his meds & juice. He looks like he is dying. he said he feels like termites are biting his throat & that he has throat cancer. It must be pretty bad. According to your posts, we are on day 4 then. Not 5 That's if we don't count the day of surgery.

  4. Reading your daily blog post tonsillectomy was very helpful. My 17 year old son had so much swelling, he could hardly breath the first night. He had to sleep upright.

Just when he was starting to feel better on day 10, he awakened at 3 am with a mouth full of frank blood. He lost at least 1 unit of blood on the way to the ER when it stopped. Thank the Lord, truly. He had emergency surgery, during which he hemorrhaged in three other areas... losing another unit of blood. It was so frightening. We live about 15 minutes from the hospital and for some reason the (God answering our prayers, perhaps), he stopped bleeding. We are now at day 24 post second surgery. I am finally able to sleep at night... that is until prom night.... new worries.
    Thanks again for your blog.
My advice is to stay close to a hospital!... especially for the first 14 days. They say day 7-10 are the dangerous days...scabs coming off?

  5. Your son & you had a horrible experience with this. I thought my 12yr old had a hard time. He also had terrible swelling & severe ear/throat pain the first week.I am so glad your son is ok and you got to the hospital fast. I was 21 when I had a tonsillectomy and my scab broke off during the night (after I sneezed)and I was rushed into ER with a second surgery and had my stomache pumped. Very scary. The pain after this second surgery was worse. I was stitched instead of cauderized that time around.Thank goodness my son has made a full recovery. He hasn't complained in awhile and finally returned to school after being off 2 weeks.I didn't want to send him back too early and have a relapse. I'm glad I kept him home 2 weeks. Today is day 19 and he has his 3 week post op in 2 days. He can eat anything and he sleeps like a baby.I cna't hear a sound. He used to snore so bad & not sleep well. WE were concerned about sleep apnea. You are right in saying to be near a hospital. I called the nurse several times the first week with many questions. The days following the surgery are worse then the day of surgery it seems. The patient needs to be watched closely. Round the clock if you can. At any age it seems.Your sons scabs must have came off like mine did. Right around the same tme too. I'm glad both our sons are doing better now.THis board has been very helpful. I found another one too. I did a search on tonsillectomy forums. Take Care!
